Vision of the research line

The vision of the Pain in Motion prehabilitation research line is to utilize the perisurgical window-of-opportunity to improve the patient’s overall health and well-being and decreasing their risk for unfavorable surgical outcomes, such as persistent postoperative pain, while maximizing healthcare efficiency by developing, investigating and implementing targeted lifestyle-oriented interventions.

Short description of the research line

To achieve our vision, we primarily focus on research investigating the (cost-)effectiveness and implementation of biopsychosocial pre-/perihabilitation interventions which are targeting relevant perisurgical lifestyle factors, such as, physical (in)activity, stress and sleep, to optimize long term surgical outcomes. Secondly, we aim to explore mechanisms underlying the intervention effects and identify novel treatment targets to further enhance perisurgical care.
